Halo Chair

A blue spirulina bio-fabric dress for the Halo Chair, designed in collaboration with Sarah Ellison and presented as part of 100 Chairs at Melbourne Design Week 2025. The project explores creating volume and bringing biomaterial into furniture design. The fitted bio-fabric sits over the chair’s stainless steel frame, introducing a contrasting material and surface to the underlying structure. The collaboration investigates how a bio-based material can be shaped around a three-dimensional form, and how its physical properties can contribute to the character of a furniture piece.

Acknowledgement: Huge thanks to Sarah for her care and trust in what we do. You were the only person we texted from our Caribbean island honeymoon to make sure this chair would be ready for Melbourne Design Week, and it was worth it! And to the talented team at Dusty Road, Paige, Aaron, and Kaitlin, for bringing the upholstery to life.
